- Veteran memorials — starting at $1,495. Service branch emblems, rank, and unit engraving for veterans and their spouses.
- Upright headstones — starting at $1,995. A die (the standing stone) set on a base. The traditional look most families picture.
- Custom monuments — starting at $2,995. Shaped stones, hand-etched scenes, and one-of-a-kind designs.
- Companion monuments — starting at $3,495. A single wider memorial for two people, usually a married couple.
- Cremation memorials — priced by style. Pedestals, benches, niche plaques, and markers designed to hold or honor cremated remains.
- Pet memorials — starting at $195. For the family members with four legs.
Those are starting points, not averages. A larger stone, a premium granite color, or heavy carving will price above the starting figure, and we will give you the exact number in writing before you commit to anything.
What Is Included in the Price
This is where quotes from different companies stop being comparable, so it is worth being blunt about it: our prices include installation. The concrete foundation work, the delivery to the cemetery, the setting of the stone — that is part of the memorial price, not a line item that shows up later.
Also included with a standard memorial:
- The design work — we draw the layout and send you a proof to approve before anything is cut
- Standard lettering: names, dates, and a short inscription
- Sandblast engraving of standard emblems such as crosses, roses, or praying hands
- The manufacturer’s warranty on the granite itself
When you compare two quotes, ask each company whether setting is included and whether the design proof is free. A number that looks lower on paper often is not, once the setting charge lands.
What Raises the Price
Size and thickness
Granite is sold by the volume of stone, so size is the single biggest driver of cost. Going from a 24-inch upright to a 36-inch upright is not a small step — it is meaningfully more raw material, more weight to ship, and more foundation underneath it.
Granite color
Gray and black granites are quarried in large volumes and priced accordingly. Reds, blues, mahoganies, and rarer imported stones cost more for the identical shape. If budget is the constraint, choosing a common color and keeping the size generous usually gives families a more satisfying memorial than a small stone in an expensive color.
Carving and artwork
Standard sandblast lettering is included. What adds cost is depth and detail: hand-etched portraits, laser-etched photographs, deep-relief carved roses or landscapes, and scenes that wrap around the sides of the stone. A Sacramento Mountains skyline etched across a die is beautiful work, and it is priced as artwork, because that is what it is.
Add-ons and hardware
Granite or bronze vases, ceramic photo portraits, bronze plaques mounted to granite bases, and gold or silver leafing on the lettering all add to the total. Vases in particular are worth deciding on up front — adding one later means pulling and re-drilling a stone that is already set.
Costs That Come From the Cemetery, Not the Monument Company
Every cemetery in Otero County sets its own rules, and some charge their own fees for permits, foundations, or opening a section for an installation. Those charges go to the cemetery, not to us, and they vary from one property to the next — a municipal cemetery, a church cemetery, and a rural family plot outside Tularosa can all handle it differently.
So before you finalize a design, confirm two things with your cemetery: what they charge for setting or permits, and what they allow. Some sections restrict monuments to flush markers only, which changes both the design and the budget. Veterans: Part of the Cost May Already Be Covered
If your loved one served, the VA may furnish a government headstone or marker at no cost to the family for an eligible unmarked grave, or a bronze medallion for a grave already marked with a private stone. Many families choose a private memorial anyway, because government markers come in fixed sizes and styles with limited room for personal inscription. Granite is quarried, cut, and engraved to order, then shipped and installed — that timeline is the manufacturing reality, not a scheduling backlog.
